Major General Dato Pahlawan Hj Ahmad Nasir bin Hj Abd Rahman (Retired) had served for more than 40 years with the Malaysian Army. Born in Bagan Serai, Perak he had his early education in the prestigous Royal Military College (RMC), which enable him to be called a “budak boy”.

His last appointment before retirement was as the Chief Engineer (CE) to the Malaysian Army Royal Engineer Corp. The CE’s office is with the Army Headquarters at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). The CE which is a “two-star general” post is the highest ranking Engineer officer in the Corp, overseeing strategic planning, human resource development and training, assets management, implementation of policies and supervising of development and construction projects.

Prior to that, upon completion of the International Fellows Programme at the US Army War College (a one year course in 2016), Dato Hj Ahmad Nasir was appointed as the Director General (DG) of Defence Engineering and Services Division in the Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters from 2017 to 2018. The DG is responsible for the planning and execution of infrastructure and construction projects for the Armed Forces and the maintenance of the Armed Forces camp.
Dato Hj Ahmad Nasir had the priviledge to be appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Defence Geospatial Division, in the National Mapping and Survey Directorate (JUPEM). As head of the Division, the DG serves not only to JUPEM but acts as the “bridge” between JUPEM which is under the Ministry of Water, Land and Natural Resources and MINDEF for the co-ordination, implementation and requirement of geospatial services for the Armed Forces as well as other relevant agencies.

Prior to the above three significant appointments, Dato Hj Ahmad Nasir had served various Army Engineer units. He collected tremendous experiences such as overseeing the planning and development of the Army Combined Arms Training Centre, commanded Engineer units and managed assets assigned to the Army Field Command which includes the bridging, territorial Army and a nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) squadrons.

Technical experiences include project management skills when he was the Superintending Officer (SO) of various MINDEF infrastructure and construction projects. Dato Hj Ahmad Nasir uses the opportunity to gain valuable experiences to enable him to coordinate and allocate resources including human resources, to plan and control of project funding, training and last but not lease the ability in strategic planning to strategise organisation into achieving its goal and mission. Overall, Dato Hj Ahmad Nasir is able to lead organisation as well as perform consultancy and advisory roles.

Significant Professional Experience

Dato Hj Ahmad Nasir has lead Engineer troops and element in the humanitarian disaster and relief operations. He was selected to be a member of the Malaysian military team stationed in Iraq, serving with the United Nations in United Nation Iran – Iraq Military Observer Mission (UNIIMOG). He deployed the Engineer bridging assets for the quick action plan to rescue residence during the Bukit Antarabangsa land slide disaster. He was very much involved in the planning and execution of infrastructure and housing projects in the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) programme and involved in the infrastructure and road projects in rural Sarawak areas.

Due to his vast experiences, Dato Hj Ahmad Nasir was selected by the government to be part of the team for the feasibility studies to Afghanistan prior to the deployment of the Malaysian element to support the International Protection Force under the International Support Operations (ISO) for Afghanistan.

He was confered the Darjah Panglima Taming Sari (DPTS) which carries the title Dato’ Pahlawan from His Majesty the Sultan of Perak in 2017.
